Woodland Garden June Update

We’re relieved to see the return of the summer afternoon rains.  While it means more weeds, it also has lead to the return of standing water in the swamp. The large patch of Southern shield ferns beside the swamp seems to have withered—we’ll see if they recover.  We suspended a tarp over a rain barrel, to allow us to catch more water away from the hoses.

With the loss of the dumpster for vegetation removal, we’re doing more ‘chop and drop’ of non-seedy invasive plants.  We’re encouraged by the growth and flowering of the swamp azaleas and the golden cannas.

Meet our newest member of the woodland family.
